Pakistan Secure Victory Against England

Pakistan took a 1-0 series lead in this tightly fought Test match at the iconic Lords cricket ground. Pakistan were batting first in this game and managed to score 339 runs with Misbah being the highest scorer. For a long time he has been a great player for Pakistan, and steps up to the occasion when they have needed him. Also as captain he definitely played a captains knock in their first innings by scoring 114 runs he definitely helped his team to a decent score. For England Woakes was the standout bowler with 6 wickets, as the England bowling attack gave it there all.

In the England first innings they didn’t fair that badly getting to 272 runs but once again Cook and Root were the two batsman who had scored the runs and were helping the team. Without Cook and Root in the England line up I think they would have definitely struggled in this match as the Pakistan bowling attack is quite a strong one. As Cook and Root have saved England plenty of times and this was once again the case in their first innings, they both led from the front and the rest of the batting line-up just collapsed. Yasir Shah was the standout bowler for Pakistan he picked up 6 wickets he was bowling very well at Lords.

Pakistan were batting once again so they had a bit of a lead and they just built upon that lead. Pakistan’s second innings was very mixed with them losing wickets at regular intervals, and this time it was Shafiq and Ahmed who helped Pakistan reach 215 runs. The rampant England bowling attack were strong as always and making Pakistan fight for all the runs, as they wanted to keep the total to chase down to a reasonable total, but Pakistan set them a total of 282 runs to chase. Which sounded like a decent total to chase.

Now it was England’s game to lose and they didn’t start off to well, by losing Cook, Hales and Root early but the England middle order stepped up Ballance, Bairstow and Vince got stuck in and really tried to save the match for their side and each got into the 40’s but got out soon after. They were digging deep and fighting in this match and they did not want to lose this match, but the Pakistan bowling attack were doing well in capturing the wickets at the right time. Once again Yasir Shah came into the spotlight, he claimed 4 of the England wickets. He had got 10 wickets in this match at such an iconic venue.

Pakistan won the match by 75 runs, they were jubilant in this victory and they celebrated by doing press-ups a different celebration nonetheless, but they had secured victory which was the main thing. England were not happy with their performance they had their highlights but need to go back and analyse where they went wrong, and come back stronger in the second Test match. Which they will as you cannot keep England quiet for long especially on home turf.

IPL Cricket Games: Teams, Changes, and Updates

As the 12th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) rolls in, the
excitement is more palpable than ever.

If the fans’ excitement was bursting even before the 2019 season matchup
was announced, it’s exploding all over the place now.

The transfers and retention list for the 2019 season were announced in
November 2018 but there have been personnel changes along the way. The
opening match of India during the Cricket World Cup was also postponed. It
was moved from June 2 to June 5 to give way to the mandatory 15-day gap
from when the IPL concluded and the declaration of India as a subsequent
international fixture.

IPL teams

 Chennai Super Kings
 Kings XI Punjab
 Delhi Capitals
 Kolkata Knight Riders
 Rajasthan Royals
 Mumbai Indians
 Sunrisers Hyderabad
 Royal Challengers Bangalore

Delhi Capitals was previously known as the Delhi Daredevils, and was
renamed on 4 December 2018. During a function, the franchise announced
the new name and released a new logo for the team.

IPL Cricket Major Changes and Surprises

Anyone who’s followed IPL over the course of its 11-year run is no stranger
to the curse that is forever attached to the league. Great names fall hard on
the ground. Unknown players get the upper hand. Huge changes happen and
leave heads rolling in their wake.

The 2019 IPL season is no different. It gives life to the phrase “you win
some, you lose some.”

On 18 December 2018 the player auction was held in Jaipur, where some of
the players were released, while other remained unsold.

Some of the prominent players that were released are:

Gautam Gambhir
Role: Batsman
Batting Style: Left Handed Bat
Bowling Style: Right-arm legbreak

Yuvraj Singh
Role: Batsman
Batting Style: Left Handed Bat
Bowling Style: Left-arm orthodox

Glenn Maxwell
Role: Batting Allrounder
Batting Style: Right Handed Bat
Bowling Style: Right-arm offbreak

Jaydev Unadkat
Role: Bowler
Batting Style: Right Handed Bat
Bowling Style: Left-arm fast-medium

Some of the players who remained unsold are:

Cheteshwar Pujara
Role: Batsman
Batting Style: Right Handed Bat
Bowling Style: Right-arm legbreak

Brendon McCullum
Role: WK-Batsman
Batting Style: Right Handed Bat

Alex Hales
Role: Batsman
Batting Style: Right Handed Bat
Bowling Style: Right-arm medium

Saurabh Tiwary
Role: Batsman
Batting Style: Left Handed Bat

Vinay Kumar
Role: Bowler
Batting Style: Right Handed Bat
Bowling Style: Right-arm fast-medium

Unfortunately for them they will not be playing in the tournament for the
first time since IPL cricket was established.

In the case of Saurabh Tiwary, it’s not a surprise that no one even tried to
buy him. Following his breakthrough season with the Mumbai Indians, his
form simply hit rock bottom when he signed up with the Royal Challengers
Bangalore. And it was downhill from there.

In fact, he was released by Mumbai Indians, which repurchased him in the
2017 auction, because he failed to get a single game in the IPL 2018 edition.

The auction also revealed that:

 Jaydev Unadkat is 2018’s costliest Indian player
 Varun Chakravarthy shares the distinction with Jaydev Unadkat
 Sam Curran is the most expensive among foreign players.

After the IPL auction concluded, IPL cricket betting tips and predictions also
rolled out, giving fans a good idea of which team to put their money on.

Among the eight original franchises, only 3 managed to retain their original
avatars.

 Vijay Mallya of the Royal Challengers Bangalore has switched to
England.
 T. Venkat Ram Reddy, owner of Deccan Chargers, is experiencing the
threat of insolvency with his company Deccan Chronicle Holdings.
 Subroto Roy of Sahara (Pune Warriors) is sentenced to two years in
prison.
 Super King, N. Srinivasan lost his grip of BCCI and IC and his infuence
along with it.
 Part owner of Rajasthan Royals Raj Kundra and owner of Chennai
Super Kings N. Srinivasan are both penalized for match fixing.

India is 2019 IPL’s playground… hopefully

Amitabh Choudhary, acting secretary of the BCCI said on Monday that the
board is working hard to ensure that all the 2019 IPL matches will take place
in India.

During the IPL auction, Choudhary said, “We are trying our best to ensure
that not a single game is taken out of India.”

Schedule and venue of the IPL have yet to be announced, what with BCCI
awaiting the schedule of the 2019 general elections. The board wants to
avoid the T20 league schedule clashing with that of the general elections.

It won’t be a surprise if this doesn’t happen, however. It is not the first time
that the IPL has to change schedule and venue to give way for the general
elections.

In 2009, the BCCI had to host the IPL tournament in South Africa. In 2014,
it was partially hosted in the UAE. All these are due to the elections.

India triumph in the T20 series against England

The India vs. England T20 series has been riveting to watch. As India had won the first T20 and England came back and won the second T20 so at 1-1 the third T20 match was going to be the decider which was a treat for all the fans in Bristol who came to watch.

This decider didn’t disappoint at all as England were batting in this match and they were of too a flying start. Roy and Buttler gave England the dream start they would have wanted. Roy and Buttler really took the game away from India during the power play, They really went after the Indian bowlers and they had no response at the time. Pandya had gone for 22 runs in his first over but he learned from his mistake and came back stronger he was now giving England a tough time.

England had lost two wickets but the runs were flowing and were building up for England, and India were in for a challenge in this game. Roy, Buttler, Hales and Bairstow were the ones who scored the runs for England in this match. With Roy’s 67 runs being a vital contribution and Bairstow’s down the order nabbing those 25 runs did definitely add to England’s total and put India under pressure.

England ended on a total off 199 runs and they had done well against an inexperienced Indian bowling attack, and England would have been feeling confident at the time as they had the runs on the board and they had also won the previous T20 match and momentum was firmly on their side.

India were batting now Sharma and Dhawan to open the innings for India. Rohit has been through a lean patch. He really came into his own in this match he started off cautiously, but found his feet in no time. A player of his calibre cannot be kept quiet for long and this was the point in case in this match.

Dhawan and KL Rahul got mini starts but were out in no time. Sharma and the captain Kohli built a partnership things were slow for India in the first 10 overs. It looked like the game was going to be in England’s favour but things began to turn around, little by little India gained momentum in the game.

England got the wicket of Kohli, but Sharma continued and made sure the scoreboard was ticking over. His partnership with Pandya proved to be very successful and they scored quick fire runs which was much needed for India. Sharma ended up scoring a century for India and it was truly well deserved. Pandya with his 33 runs of 14 balls was very handy. He is proving himself to be quite the all-rounder for India.

India won the match by 7 wickets with 8 balls remaining.

Post match commentary (cricinfo.com)

Presentation time…the Man of the Match and Man of the Series is Rohit Sharma “That’s the style of my play, assessing the conditions was important. We knew the wicket would be nice to play on. I was trying to hold the shape when playing the big shots. I like to be calm, not to panic too much, because once you are there you can make up the scoring. With the wicket being so good I just knew I had to stay there. [Pandya] is a fearless individual and that’s what the team want him to do.

Eoin Morgan “We had a tremendous start with the bat and we didn’t do ourselves justice…20 or 30 short. Our execution of shots wasn’t there. Picking the right ball to hit is something we’ll have to work on. India bowled, but on a small ground we’d have expected to score more than that. Thought we’d have to do something special with the ball and it’s hard to defend on a ground like this. Hopefully we can learn as we go along. This series has produced three completely performances for us. We learn and hopefully improve.”

Virat Kohli “I think the comeback from the bowlers was outstanding, we thought they would get 225-230. The character they showed is something we are really proud of. As captain, very happy to see that. We had the quality to bowl those wicket-taking deliveries. We applied pressure and pulled the game back. [Pandya] is a really good all-round cricketer, very confident, and the way he picked up those wickets is what you want to see in younger guys. Then he delivers with the bat, Rohit was obviously very special but Hardik was standout. The pitch was really flat, we enjoyed ourselves as batsmen. I think it was a brutal day for the bowlers. We backed up something and the guys produced the goods for us. We will continue to try different things in the batting order and the bowlers. The guys are taking this as an opportunity. Great to start with a series win.”

Kohli goes and collects the trophy and celebrates with his team. They full deserve their series win, two very convincing performances either side of the defeat. On that note, we’ll leave things there for today. The one-day series starts on Thursday at Trent Bridge (that could be a mountain of runs!) and we’ll be back to bring you all the action. For now, though, it’s goodbye from Alan and Gnasher. Thanks for joining us today.

Kumar performs for India (2nd ODI Ind vs. NZ)

The second ODI came around fast it was a short break between the matches. New Zealand had the edge, as they were 1-0 up in the series. They were batting first in this match, the openers once again didn’t perform it is not like Guptill not to score runs, so he will be wondering what is going wrong and be evaluating how to set things right. As Guptill is known as one of the most destructive batsman of the game, once he gets going it is hard to stop him.

It was the lower order batsman who chipped in with the runs with 20’s, 30’s and 40’s in order to save New Zealand and make sure they do get a decent score. The Indian bowlers were fantastic in this game, and made sure New Zealand were not able to score freely. The Indian bowlers made it difficult for New Zealand to score the runs, and put them under pressure. Especially Kumar who was quietly effective, he left his mark on this game and really stepped up for India. It was a great seeing him bowl so well, he definitely gave a bowling masterclass in this game.

New Zealand finished on 230 runs and lost 9 wickets in the process. This was a low scoring ODI so this was India’s game to win now.

India were into bat now and Sharma went early but Dhawan stuck around, and had a good game today, as he was timing the ball well in this ODI. The top order performed as well in this ODI considering they didn’t do well in the 1st one. They definitely switched things around and turned the match in their favour.

Another batsman who did well for India in this game was Karthik it was really good to see him amongst the runs. It was the 68 runs from Dhawan and 64 runs from Karthik that really propelled India to victory in this game. As both batsman performed, alongside getting support from the other Indian batsman who chipped in with some quick fire runs.

India won the match by 6 wickets with 24 balls remaining.

Post match commentary (espncricinfo.com)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the Man of the Match. “That’s my nature, I’m calm, and however you practice you replicate that. I never try to do anything different. It’s the way I bowl, with the new ball, I swing it. It wasn’t happening today, so I just tried to bowl in good areas, got two wickets and that gave me confidence. Things get easier for you when you’re confident. There’s no easy route to success, but with confidence, you can do those good things better. I’m not muscular, but thanks to the trainer, introducing player-specific training, I feel much confident and stronger when it comes to fitness

“Pretty good game for us today. Exactly what we spoke at toss time. Pitch would be slow in the evening, better to bat at night,” Virat Kohli says. “Great to see Bummrah and Bhuvi, they are our top two bowlers, they know they will start more often than not, so they can create plans. And today with the wicket being slow, it was great to see them getting batsmen out in conventional ways, not ugly wickets. Shikhar has been playing very well, one odd game he’s faltered, but he’s hitting the ball really well and he’s getting good runs at the top. Dinesh as well, getting crucial runs for himself and for the team. We look forward to any challenge on us. We spoke about needing to bounce back, and we’ve done that.”

9.10 pm “One of those surfaces where if you get a good score on the board and squeeze, the bowlers would have made life difficult,” Kane Williamson says. “We weren’t good enough at the top, India’s opening bowlers were very very well, hit the mark, the length on that surface. There’s a lesson there for us. And we know we have to play a lot better to beat these guys. The surface wasn’t easy to play fluently and Colin came out and went at run-a-ball. We came here with high hopes, we put a much better performance in Mumbai and we need to be better again in Kanpur”
