Alshon Jeffery is likely to hit the free agent market after all. After weeks of speculation regarding the future of the Chicago Bears All-Pro wide receiver, there appears to be a resolution in sight.
According to a report from NFL Network, Bears are unlikely to use the franchise tag on wide receiver Alshon Jeffery for another season which would make him a free agent. Teams have until Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET to use their franchise designation and free agency officially starts on March 9th.
Jeffery played under the $14.599 million franchise tag in 2016 which he caught 52 passes for 821 yards and 2 touchdowns in 12 games. Jeffery has 13 career 100-yard receiving games over his career.
Jeffery is likely to be a top target for wide receiver needy teams such as the Los Angeles Rams.
