Legendary college football announcer Keith Jackson has died at the age of 89, ESPN announced.
Jackson was the first play-by-play in ‘Monday Night Football’ history, started calling college football games in 1966. Jackson retired from announcing in 2006.
Jackson covered the World Series, NBA games, 10 Olympics, 15 Rose Bowls, 16 Sugar Bowls and auto racing over a career that spanned more than 50 years.
“For generations of fans, Keith Jackson was college football,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “When you heard his voice, you knew it was a big game. Keith was a true gentleman and memorable presence. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Turi Ann, and his family.”
