Memorable sports moment of the week – Sammy Sosa caught with a corked bat

Nine-years ago this afternoon on June 3, 2003, former Cubs juicehead Sammy Sosa was ejected from a game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the first inning when umpires discovered he had been using a corked bat after the barrel shattered at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

The 43-year-old Sosa, a seven-time All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger Award winner who stole the 1998 National League MVP, was suspended by Major League Baseball (MLB) suits on June 6 for eight games.

After appealing the ruling, the disgraced native of the Dominican Republic had the banishment reduced to seven games on June 11.
