Working with new trainer Virgil Hunter, overrated prizefighter Amir Khan will battersubstandard Mexican Carlos Molina on Saturday night at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Khan (26-3, 18 KOs), a Pakistani-British boxer who at 17 became the youngest Englishman to win an Olympic medal when he captured silver as a lightweight at the 2004 games in Greece, relinquished his WBA world light welterweight belt in July by suffering a brutal fourth round TKO loss to WBC light welterweight champion “Swift” Danny Garcia at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“We’ve sat down and watched the Garcia fight together and we’ve been working on some new stuff from that, including being more patient and waiting for the right shots at the right time and not over-committing myself,” said Khan, 25, who, along with his younger brother, Haroon, successfully managed to fight off armed thugs trying to steal his expensive Range Rover this past October in Birmingham, England. “When I watch the Garcia fight, I can see that I’m like a totally different fighter. Virgil said to me when we watched it again ‘now you tell me what you’re doing wrong in the fight and what you’d do differently now’ and so I told him.”

Khan had teamed with Roach since 2008 and became one of the most youthful British world champs ever at the age of 22.

Boxing legend, and obnoxious blowhard, Floyd Mayweather Jr. said he wants to fight twice this coming year on major Mexican holidays.

“Floyd has told us that he is fighting twice in 2013 with the first date being May 4 — Cinco De Mayweather — and the second date being Sept. 14,” said Leonard Ellerbe, one of Mayweather’s closest advisers.

Ideally, Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs) would chose to throw fists with Manny Pacquiao, who offered to accept 45% of the pay-per-view revenue no matter the victor to finally cement a welterweight bout.

The 33-year-old Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs), voted “Fighter of the Decade” for the 2000s by the BWAA, will battle Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Conversely, Mayweather, who was released to the public on August 3 after serving 63 days behind bars at the Clark County Detention Center for beating his former sweetheart two years ago while a couple of their children watched, last fought on Cinco de Mayo when he defeated powerful Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto by unanimous decision to gain the WBA (Super) & WBC Diamond light middleweight titles.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy will be awarded to Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel or Kansas State passer Collin Klein later this evening at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square.

Although being the most outstanding NCAA college football player for a year, previous Heisman winners have not always experienced success in the National Football League (NFL).

Below are the five Heisman winners who ultimately had the smallest impact performing in the NFL over the course of the past 25 years.

1) Jason White – White won the Heisman Trophy in 2003 as a quarterback for theUniversity of Oklahoma Sooners.

White finished his collegiate career as the Sooners’ all-time leader in passing yards (8,012) and touchdown passes (81).

Despite his remarkable achievements in Norman, White garnered very little interest from scouts and was not selected in the 2005 NFL Draft.

To compound the frustration of getting snubbed by 32 teams, White was further disrespected by not receiving a single invitation to tryout for an NFL squad.

The Tennessee Titans eventually lobbed White a bone and inked the dimmed Sooner to a deal prior to the start of the 2005 season.

White’s stint as a Tennessean was extremely brief and the shopworn signal-caller prudently quit football altogether due to balky knees after being axed by the Titans.

2) Gino Torretta – Torretta captured the Heisman Trophy in 1992 as an elite field general for the University of Miami Hurricanes.

Due to a bummed shoulder that “The Son of God” suffered during training, The Ring, WBA, WBC and super middleweight champ Andre Ward will be forced to reschedule his January 26 bout against former titlist Kelly Pavlik at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.

Ward (26-0, 14 KOs) and Pavlik (40-2, 34 KOs) will now likely throw fists in late February or early March at the same venue.

The Bay Area native, who became the first American to capture boxing gold in eight years as a light heavyweight at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, easily retained his belts by battering formidable Ring Magazine and WBC light heavyweight titleholder “Bad” Chad Dawson en route to achieving a 10th round TKO on September 8 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

Prior to dominating Dawson (31-2, 17 KOs), Ward unified two belts and won The Super Six World Boxing Classic when he trumped Carl Froch by unanimous decision on December 17 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

The 28-year-old Ward, voted in the wintertime as the 2011 “Fighter of the Year” by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA), has unbelievably not vacated the squared circle on the losing end of a bout since he was a 12-year-old amateur.

“The Son of God,” currently rated by Ring Magazine as the third pound-for-pound boxer in the world, is now in position to become a national superstar and household name like fellow American gold medalists Muhammad Ali, “Sugar” Ray Leonard and Oscar De La Hoya.

Brian Kelly is a true coaching great.

While the top-ranked University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish waits to compete against No. 2 Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game on January 7 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, it was announced today that Brian Kelly will become the first two-time winner of the Home Depot Coach of the Year.

The 51-year-old Kelly, who is 81-32 since debuting on the sideline with Central Michigan in 2004, initially earned the award in 2009 while coaching the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.

Kelly, a three-time Big East Coach of the Year who mercifully replaced the hideously obese Charlie Weis as Notre Dame’s leader in December 2009, will formally accept the accolade tomorrow at the Home Depot College Football Awards.

Despite staring at a preseason schedule that seemed overwhelmingly difficult, one of the primary reasons the Irish (12-0) flourished on the gridiron was due to the play of All-American linebacker Manti Te’o, standout nose guard Louis Nix, dominant defensive end Stephon Tuitt and the rest of one of the more formidable front sevens in recent memory.

However, as Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick aptly noted, the fiery Kelly deserves as much credit as anyone for halting the Irish’s descent into college football’s version of redheaded stepchildren.

Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao will throw fists with rugged Mexican “Dinamita” Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 33-year-old Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs) most recently fought in June when he had his WBO light welterweight belt stolen by criminally incompetent judges who awarded Timothy Bradley an insane split decision victory.

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KOs), who has captured eight crowns in six different weight classes and is currently ranked by Ring Magazine as the sixth preeminent prizefighter today, last vacated the squared circle in April with a lopsided unanimous decision triumph over Ukrainian Serhiy Fedchenko in Mexico City.

Pacquiao, who has earned a draw and two conquests over Marquez since their initial meeting in May 2004, won an extremely debatable majority decision over “Dinamita” in their third clash last November 12 in “Sin City.”

Shopworn, and juiceless, 10-time Silver Slugger Award winner Alex Rodriguez will undergo surgery on his left hip and likely won’t return to the diamond until roughly the All-Star break.

The 37-year-old Rodriguez, who acquired the bynames “A-Fraud” and “Bitch Tits” for rampantly abusing synthetic testosterone, has a torn labrum, bone impingement and a cyst.

Rodriguez, a three-time AL MVP and known adulterer who has amassed 647 homers, 2,901 hits and 1,950 RBI since making his professional debut with the Seattle Mariners in July, 1994, has been to the disabled list on six occasions in the past six seasons and also underwent surgery on his right hip in March 2009.

“It is a more complicated surgery with a longer recovery time because there is a little bit more that needs to be done,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. “I don’t think it’s age related. Butt at the same time, the older you are, the slower you’re going to recover regardless. But the bottom line and the message I’ve been receiving is that this is a solvable issue.”

Interestingly, Cashman didn’t dismiss the notion that steroids may be causing Rodriguez’s countless ailments.

“They’re not your typical injuries,” said Cashman of Rodriguez, who admitted in 2009 that he used steroids while with the Texas Rangers from 2001-03. “But, It doesn’t matter what I wonder.”

Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham defended Ndamukong Suh yesterday after Texans quarterback Matt Schaub publicly blasted the notorious defensive tackle for booting him in the ballsack during the first quarter of Houston’s 34-31 overtime victory on Thanksgiving at Ford Field in Detroit.

The NFL fined the 6-foot-4, 307 pound Suh, voted the NFL’s dirtiest player for the second consecutive year in a recent poll of players by the Sporting News, $30,000 for unnecessary roughness on the play.

“I saw the play,” said Cunningham, 66. “I agree whoever said it on national TV that he has to have eyes in the back of his head. That’s the first thing I said. I thought it was ridiculous. I’m so tired of having to say things like that, but it’s true. I coach football for living, I’ve done it for a long time. All kinds of things happen. He was trying to make a play and nobody talks about the guard tackling him on the way to the quarterback. We get no call; they get a call — or he gets a fine, whatever it was.”

Despite the league’s decision to not suspend the troublemaker, Schaub, who has thrown 117 touchdowns, in comparison to 67 interceptions, for 20,791 yards since the Atlanta Falcons snagged him out of the University of Virginia with the 90th choice in the 2004 draft, chastised Suh and said such a player would never be accepted in Houston.

“You don’t want a player like that. The stuff that he stands for and the type of player he is, that’s not Houston Texan-worthy,” said Schaub, 31, who resembled Vincent Willem van Gogh in pads when bloodthirsty Denver Broncos linebacker Joe Mays landed a helmet-to-helmet hit that resulted in the Texan losing a piece of his ear lobe in September. “That’s not what we’re about as a football team, as individuals, collectively as a group, we’re not that type of person.”

Screw a suspension… Latrell Sprewell should have be incarcerated for inflicting such wounds on P.J. Carlesimo.

15 years ago today on December 1, 1997, batshit crazy Golden State Warriors shooting guard Latrell Sprewell twice assaulted newly hired head coach P.J. Carlesimo during a team practice.

According to witnesses, Carlesimo screamed at the then 27-year-old Sprewell, who the Warriors took out of the University of Alabama with the 24th pick in the 1992 NBA Draft, to “put a little mustard” on his passes.

In response, the 6-foot-5, 195 pound Sprewell, who previously as a Warrior got into separate fistfights with badass colleagues Jerome Kersey and Byron Houston, warned Carlesimo to avoid him like anthrax.

Carlesimo, a two-time Big East Conference coach of the year who was named Seton Hall University’s “Coach of the Century” in 1999, refused to cower and proceeded to walk toward the pathetic bully.
