Bad Luck or Mistakes Challenge Chasers at Chicagoland

Sep 19, 12 Bad Luck or Mistakes Challenge Chasers at Chicagoland

By Rich Foust

The first race of the Chase is behind us and almost all Chase contenders had a stellar day at Chicagoland Speedway. But for some it was challenging and in some cases, a downright disappointing day…

Four Chasers had mild to major issues at the 1.5-mile track in Joliet, IL. Starting with Dale Jr, who qualified in fourth place, then had to make an engine change due to a mistake in over-revving his engine during his qualifying run. As a result, Dale Jr took the green flag at the back of the field. Although he had a terrible starting position, in typical Junior fashion, he made his way to the front resulting in an 8th-place finish.

So, as the Sprint Cup Series makes its second stop to the Magic Mile; the second race of the 2012 chase, Hamlin and the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team must put together a winning performance.

Allmendinger Reinstated by NASCAR

Sep 19, 12 Allmendinger Reinstated by NASCAR

By Jordan Dodson

AJ Allmendinger has been reinstated by NASCAR after being indefinitely suspended on July 24.

AJ Allmendinger was suspended for violating NASCAR’s substance abuse policy after failing a random drug test at Kentucky Speedway on July 24th. A few weeks later Allmendinger was fired by Penske Racing. AJ, in a later interview, stated that he failed the random drug test by taking amphetamines. Allmendinger said stress was the biggest factory in taking the drug one time and that stress would be the main emphasis in his “Road to Recovery” program so he could return to NASCAR.

Beating Jimmie Johnson was a hard task the whole day but after the last pit stop, Keselowski figured out how to pass Johnson.

Johnson dominated the race for most of the day and Keselowski was the only driver who could keep up. Keselowski had a great final pit stop and made the race winning move by passing Johnson with about thirty laps to go. After Keselowski’s final pit stop he said his car “just took off.”
