Kings Center Suspended Following Confrontation With Spurs Broadcaster
During Friday night’s game between the Spurs and the Kings, Sacramento’s center DeMarcus Cousins, upon drawing a foul on San Antonio center Tim Duncan, vowed to his teammates, “I’m going to bust his ass.”
Former Spurs player and current Spurs broadcaster Sean Elliott overheard Cousins’ remark. At that point, the Fox Sports Southwest color analyst graced viewers with this analysis: “You think you’re dominating Tim Duncan, you get it stuffed right back in your face. Timmy doesn’t like to talk trash.
“Don’t start talking and flapping your gums against one of the greatest players ever. He’s going to make you pay.”
After the game, a Sacramento Bee reporter informed Cousins of Elliott’s comments during a postgame Q&A. “For the commentator to say the things he had said, that was immature,” said Cousins of Eillott.
We don’t know if someone had played Elliott’s comments to Cousins (he was obviously in action on the court at the time) but he was so incensed by Elliott’s analysis of the Kings player, currently in his third year in the league, he returned to the court and waited for Elliott and play-by-play man Bill Land to wrap up their postgame show for Fox Sports Southwest.
Said Bill Schoening, Land’s counterpart on WOAI radio, “I was wondering why Cousins was out there in his uniform waiting for them to finish his postgame show. Then I saw them in an animated conversation out on the court. I observed Sean walk away from Cousins and Cousins continue to talk to Sean as he left the scene, but I couldn’t hear what was being said.”
As of Sunday morning, the NBA announced that they would be reviewing the incident.
As of Sunday night, the league hit Cousins with a two-game suspension.
This tweet from DeMarcus’ Cousins’ Twitter account, moments after the news broke, says it all.
