ESPN’s Bill Simmons likens the play of Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green to the “invisible” girlfriend of Fighting Irish linebacker Manti Te’o, then asks, “Too soon?”

Yes, Bill Simmons went there.

During a postgame discussion with Michael Wilbon on ESPN, following their coverage of the Boston Celtics/Chicago Bulls tilt on Friday night, a game in which the Celtics lost at home by one point, Mr. Grantland couldn’t help himself. He talked about the players on the Celtics’ bench, including forward Jeff Green, who averages ten points a game, but has a combined six points in his previous two – including a two-point effort against Chicago.

“Jeff Green, I mean, he’s been invisible,” Simmons said. “I keep waiting for him to start dating Manti Te’o.”

After an awkward laugh was had by Wilbon, Simmons asks, “Too soon?”

“You had to go there,” Wilbon remarked. “Yes, too soon.”

As a follow-up, Bill Simmons should give us a one-liner about NBC Sports Network’s miniscule audience.
