A little awkward? Maybe. However Zdeno Chara and Marian Hossa are good friends and remain friends even after the Stanley Cup Finals. In fact, they’re neighbors in Trencin, Slovakia, just living across the street from each other. At the moment, people are offended that Chara would attend Hossa’s Stanley Cup party. Why? People have the perception that professional athletes have to constantly despise their opponents on and off the ice. This isn’t Hollywood, folks. Professional athletes have opinions and views that could be different than yours (insert Tim Thomas joke here). If you were offended by Chara attending Hossa’s Stanley Cup party, I’m going to assume you’re not a big fan of the hand-shake line after a playoff series as well, because what the hand-shake line represents is putting aside all the trash-talk and the dirty hits you see in a series, and congratulating the guy you’ve been beating on for the past two or three weeks. And that was Chara’s intention by attending Hossa’s party. Look at the picture for example. A smile on both Chara and Hossa’s face while giving each other a bro-shake. This picture is nothing to be offended by.
