Tip-Off Preview: Edmonton Energy vs. Albany Legends

3 Min Read

Albany, NY – As the weather warms up so does the competition for the Albany Legends who play host to the Edmonton Energy starting tonight. The division rivals will tip-off their 3 game weekend series tonight at 7pm at CBA.

The Albany Legends are coming off an impressive sweep of the Oregon Waves last weekend which saw 3 straight blow out games. The Legends won all 3 games by an average of 47 points and improved to a division leading 7-2 record.

This series with the Energy will be an important one for the Legends. The Kankakee Soldiers are only a game back from them in the International Division with a 6-2 record.

The Energy will be tipping off their 2011 IBL season after finalizing their roster recently.
The team roster includes former NCAA stars and NBA rookies and have a strong advantage in size with many players on the roster standing at 6’10 and up.

Rashaun Broadus from Brigham Young University leads the energy attack. He was a two year starter and a key contributor in a Mountain West Conference Championship. Broadus also was an All-Star on Lithuania’s Siauliai pro team.

Broadus is joined by elite scorer Curtis Nash who has averaged over 22 points per game.

The Energy also have the benefit of Quinnel ‘Q’ Brown. Brown comes over from the Quebec Kebs where he was named the PBL Player of the Year.  Both athletes will bring intensity to the court.

The big man in the middle is 6’11 Lee Scruggs who is a force the Legends have to deal with. It will not be an easy task containing the Team Captain and All-Star.

Can the Legends continue to grow after last weekend’s lopsided routs? More importantly it is time to see if the Legends can truly handle a team of this size. In the Legends two losses the Gary Splash and Kankakee Soldiers exposed a very questionable interior defense.

At times the Legends have been able to bail themselves out with 3 point shooting and an up-tempo pace. But they have struggled when teams force them into a half court game and attack the paint.

Will the Legends overcome the inside force of the Energy and distance themselves a bit from the Soliders in the International Division?

Or will the Edmonton Energy open their 2011 IBL Season with a strong statement and throw a curveball into the entire division standings?

Find out tonight at 7pm at CBA.
