Tonight is the NBA Draft. Much of the talk is about Kyrie Irving going #1 overall and Derrick Williams going #2. Other chatter is where Jimmer Fredette will go and how good Kemba Walker will be.
Mostly, fans have been discussing how the heck to pronounce some of these foreign players names and whether or not to even care about a possible NBA Lockout.
Yet when David Stern wobbles up to the podium to announce the #1 overall pick to announce the Cleveland Cavaliers selection I for one won’t be filled with excitement and wonderment…I’ll be reminiscing about the past 10 years of NBA Drafts. I won’t be marveling about the depth of talent, no, I’ll be recalling the Top Busts since I graduated high school in 2000.
So instead of bombarding SportsRantz.com loyalists with yet another Mock Draft (version 4.2.3.1) I’ll instead remind you of all the embarrassing misses over the past decade.
Most of you will chuckle, most of you won’t remember these players and some of you may want to message me to stop picking on their team and focus on my Phoenix Suns’ woes. I will simple retort by saying it’s easier to pick on the busts in the Top 10 rather than ALL the dumb decisions the Suns made after the Top 10. Believe me if there was a list for that than this blog would be wearing orange and purple.

Greg Oden
Dominant in college and a mere ghost in the pros. Oden has the skillset but looks and plays more like an old man than an elite prospect.
Poor Portland. Remember they drafted Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan in the early 80s? Well they followed that up by drafting Oden over Kevin Durant in 2007. Kudos!!
Adam Morrison
Another phenom in the NCAA and yet another Ghost. But it’s actually easier to spot Morrison than Oden. Seriously.
All you have to do is look at the end of the Lakers bench and there is Morrison. Maybe not for long but who can ignore that stellar 8 ppg career average?
Hasheem Thabeet
Nothing screams bust like Thabeet. After getting to the NBA with comparisons to Dikembe Mutombo, Thabeet couldn’t even survive his rookie campaign and was immediately sent to the D-League.
Thabeet is now on the Houston Rockets who once again sent him to the D-League. Once considered a Defensive and Rebounding force Thabeet carries a busty 0.9 blacks per game and 2.8 rebounds per game career average.
Darko Milicic
What Draft Bust list would be complete without good ole’ Darko. It seriously is the ONLY team he can stay on.
He momentarily plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves his 5th team.
Darko posts career averages of 6.1 ppg and 4.1 rpg. Good thing Detroit picked him over Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh….yep!
Kwame Brown
Here ONE lesson to be learned in this article. Never let Michael Jordan make draft picks. Hell of a basketball player, terrible Drafter.
Not only did Jordan pick aforementioned Morrison but made this stellar selection of Kwame Brown in 2001.
To this fay Kwame has posted career averages of 6.8 points per game and 5.5 rebounds for 5 different teams over his career.
