Nate Robinson was a two sport athlete at the University of Washington via Rainier Beach high school playing football and basketball.
After devoting his allegiance to the hardwood as an underclassmen at UW he went on to achieve great success earning all America honors. Robinson was selected in the first round of the 2005 NBA draft and 11 years later he wants to pursue gridiron dreams as a wide receiver.
Robinson played football his freshman year and recorded two interceptions in six starts according to (Sports-reference.com). Originally he was expected to enter the league as a prospective cornerback but decided on switching to receiver after taking in some advice.
It was reported by ESPN’s Sheil Kapadia, after the workout with the Seattle Seahawks head man Pete Carroll suggested a move to receiver may be beneficial.
Football trainer Dwayne Frampton has begun work with Robinson to help hone his skills at the position. Frampton’s previous clients list include pass catchers Odell Beckham Jr and speedster Desean Jackson. Carroll reportedly believed Robinson displayed good enough hands to make the switch effectively.
The trainer delivered high praise for his newest client, “He has a lot of strengths,” Frampton told Kapadia. “He’s very explosive. His hands are great. He’s very strong, strong for his height and his weight.”
At 5-foot-9 Robinson is an ideal fit in the slot but currently he is 32 years old which is an age most players have passed their athletic prime. But the three time dunk contest champion is determined to beat the odds attempting to become the first to play in the NBA and NFL.
Entering the league potentially as an older rookie his body will have less wear and abuse on it than a typical former collegiate player which works in his favor. Teams will begin training camp later this month and several squads could use a spark or some extra depth in their receiving corps.
For now Robinson will continue his workout regiment and wait for serious inquirers, keep an eye on his journey it could be a historic one.
