Isaiah Green Plays Football To Make His Late Mother Proud

4 Min Read

Isaiah Green’s mother, Tracy Denise Green died of obesity at age 34 when he was only seven years old. After she died, he was taken in by his uncle who raised him. He started playing football two years later at the age of nine, he didn’t really want to play but he had nothing else to do he said.

“… I didn’t start off playing quarterback because I was a chubby kid. I started off playing linebacker and fullback,” he said. “Then one day at practice, kids were throwing the football around and the coaches saw me throw it real far and they asked me had I ever played quarterback before and I said no. They asked me would I try and I said yeah and then I started playing quarterback.”

He likes playing quarterback because he gets to be the leader, a lot of people look up to him, and with all eyes on him on every play he likes the responsibility that comes with that.

He is a three-sport athlete (Football, Basketball and Track & Field) at Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia which is also his hometown. The six-foot-two, 203-pound senior quarterback recorded 187 completions on 323 pass attempts (58 percent), 2,634 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, nine interceptions and had a 90.2 quarterback rating in 2015; he also rushed for 106 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior. To go along with the stats, he was selected as Langston Hughes football offensive player of the game nine times and the team’s 2015 player of the year. The Langston Hughes Panthers finished with a record of 5-6 (5-2 Region) last season and lost their first-round playoff game to Tucker High School 38-28.

According to 247Sports Composite, Isaiah Green is a three-star recruit in the 2017 class and the 41st dual-threat quarterback. He committed to the Marshall Thundering Herd June 11 and he received a total of seven offers from Marshall, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, East Tennessee State, Florida A&M, Gardner-Webb, and North Carolina Central University.

“Creating my own legacy, making [my] name known throughout college football and have a chance to go to the league,” Isaiah Green said about what he’s looking forward to most playing for Marshall.

“The major was one of the big things. They have a great business program. I wanted to go far away from home but I didn’t want to go too far so they were in the middle. The coaches, they seemed like they really wanted me when I went on my official and I was just treated like they really wanted me to come [play for them]. Sometimes it’s not all about where I want to go, it’s [about] where they want me. I felt like they really wanted me and I have a teammate from my school that goes there.”

Isaiah Green has the opportunity to throw for over 5,000 career yards at Langston Hughes in his senior season. He currently has 4,557 yards, 33 touchdowns and 20 interceptions as a Langston Hughes Panther.
