The Yankees Season Is Hanging In The Balance

4 Min Read

The Yankees still have a pulse on their season although making the second wildcard spot is unlikely they still have a chance. The Yankees had big decisions to make this season with their players and how they were going to use them.

The trade deadline was also a turning point in their season as the shipped off a couple of star pitchers and acquired young talent. As this season comes to an end for the team they have to figure out what moves they need to make in the off season to have a great 2017 season from start to finish.

Tonight’s game against the Red Sox is big for the Yankees. There are a few reasons this game is big and the first reason is David Ortiz. This game will be his last game of his career against the rival Yankees. The Yankees have already won 2 games in this series and they could get the sweep tonight if they win.

Boston will be in the post season, but it will be good for the Yankees to send off David Ortiz with a loss putting a low light on the end of his career in the Bronx. The Yankees also need this win to stay alive.
The Yankees will need help and they also need to help themselves in these final four games they have left in the season. Sweeping the Red Sox would be a good start to try and squeeze into the second wildcard spot. A loss tonight would be a knockout punch to the Yankees playoff hopes, but they would still be able to play a spoiler role to the Baltimore Orioles.

This series has playoff implications for several teams in the AL such as the Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners, and the Houston Astros. All of these teams are fighting to get that second wildcard spot from Baltimore.

The Yankees would have to sweep Baltimore and have the other 3 teams ahead of them lose as well. Detroit will finish up their series against Cleveland and have a final 3 game set against the Atlanta Braves. Seattle will start a 4 game final series against Oakland to end their regular season.

Houston will be playing against the Angels in a 3 game set to close out their season this weekend as well. The Yankees will need help from the Braves, Athletics, and Angels in order to leap over these teams that are ahead of them. All the Yankees can do for themselves is win out.

The Yankees could be part of a historic come back and everyone on the team has to be on the same page. This is not a time for the Yankees to make any mistakes they need to play like they want to win. They also need to be more aggressive at the plate and drive in runners on base.

It is the end of the season and they are backed into a corner on the brink of missing the post season. The Yankees season is not over till it’s over and they have given themselves a slim chance to make something out of nothing.
