The New York Giants are starting to heat up as they got a big win in London. This game was big for the Giants as they climbed back over the .500 mark with their second straight win. They are gaining ground in their division as they are now tied for 3rd place in the NFC East with the Washington Redskins.
The Giants still have a tough road ahead of them, but a win going into their bye week is very important to keep their momentum going. The Rams and Giants played a tough game yesterday at a neutral field and the Giants did exactly what they needed to do to get a win.
The Giants usually start off slow and yesterday was no different. The Rams get out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and seemed to have the game under control. The Giants need to change the way they play early or the game can get out of hand in a hurry.
The Rams had their offense moving the ball down the field quickly and had the Giants defense worn out. The Giants defense did not give up on plays and would play big throughout the rest of the game. Although the defense had problems early they did get pressure on Rams quarterback Case Keenum.
The Giants offense early on in the game also has trouble getting the ball down the field. The Giants often try to keep the ball on the ground with the running game, but that leads to quick three and outs on offense.
One of their offensive weapons Odell Beckham Jr. was not 100 percent in yesterday’s game because of a hip injury, however Beckham Jr. did make a few catches to keep drives alive. The Giants may go down early, but opposing teams tend to leave the door open for them to come back and win the game. The Giants did just that and they did it with their defense.
A player that never gave up on any play on defense in yesterday’s win was Landon Collins. Collins was playing hard even at the beginning of the game when the team was down by 10. His tough play was the reason the Giants got their scoring started in the second quarter.
Collins would intercept a tipped pass by Keenum, and take it 44 yards for a touchdown. Collins would finish the game with 8 tackles and 2 interceptions. The Giants defense had a huge roll in this game because they were able to break down the offensive line after the first quarter and control the rest of the game.
The Giants are still having problems holding on to the football and gaining more time of possession during a game. During regulation the Giants had the ball for 24:57 while the Rams had the ball for 35:03. Those ten minutes are important because that is an extra ten minutes of game time that the Giants defense has to be on the field.
The Giants have overcome that time deficit multiple times this season, but it could come back to hurt them later in the season. That hurt can come in the form of injuries on defense. The Giants defense did have 2 more interceptions courtesy of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and his last interception would seal the win for the Giants.
