Presidential Debate at UNLV

2 Min Read

The final presidential debate is being held at the Thomas and Mack center on the campus of UNLV, home of the Runnin’ Rebels, on Wednesday, October 19. The campus started putting up fences and blocking off parking lots early last week in preparation for the event. The campus is pretty much closed down this week, since there’s very little parking available, and security is tight so most classes were cancelled.
The Thomas and Mack just finished a $72 million dollar makeover which included all new seats, additional ADA seating, new paint and lettering on the concourse. The biggest change was a fancy new 2 story, 35,000 square foot addition with a beautiful view of the Las Vegas Strip. I haven’t been inside yet, but just looking at it from the outside is beautiful. It can host events separate from the Mack or in conjunction with them, such as during the National Finals Rodeo where every seat is sold out for 2 weeks straight. (See story here)
The debate has got everyone on campus talking, with signs EVERYWHERE that have UNLV, Las Vegas and 2016 Presidential Debate on them. This will be the most “free” publicity UNLV has received in years. Looking forward to seeing one of my favorite places all over the news Wednesday when the debate begins.
