Christian Trahan is looking towards the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the home of New Orleans Saints. He wants to help his team get to the championship game and win one for Sulphur High School / Sulphur, Louisiana.
“I want to go to the Dome. I think we have a great team to do that with some great leaders. I think I can improve, I think I can become a whole different player. I feel that at [the] level I’m at right now, I’m set but I can be better at what I do. Once I step up, it’s a whole different game and I’m going to have to step up my game.”
The Sulphur Golden Tors finished the 2016 season 6-3 (4-1 Division) and are coming off of a rivalry game loss against the Barbe Buccaneers (8-1, 5-1 District) from Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Golden Tors next challenge will come in their next district game Friday, Nov. 4 at the Sam Houston Broncos (1-8, 1-4 District) in Lake Charles.
Trahan is a St. Charles, Louisiana native, knows the city like the back of his hand and said it means a great deal to him. HE’s going to have extra motivation to get a win his hometown for sure.
He credits Helen Lefevre, a woman who is a family friend but he calls her his aunt, for being another person he can depend on.
“…She really just took me in. She was like a [father] figure to me,” he said.
Trahan said moving in with her was something he had to overcome at a time when his mother was going through hard times but it proved to be a good thing for him. His family, he said pushes him to do better.
On the football field, Christian Trahan is ranked a three-star tight end in the 2018 class, the 20th best tight end and 29th best player in Louisiana according to the 247Sports Composite. He holds 10 offers from these programs: Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, South Alabama, Louisiana Tech, Southern Methodist University, Oklahoma State, Tulane and Jackson State.
“It has actually been really good. It’s treating me good. A lot of schools, it’s exciting getting mail every day, really exciting,” he said about the recruiting process.
At the moment, he has high interest in Louisiana Tech, Southern Methodist University, and Oklahoma State and he plans to make his commitment decision at the end of next summer before his senior season.
Christian Trahan knew he had the talent to play the game when his coaches gave him a chance to play tight end his sophomore year.
“Sophomore year when they gave me a chance to play tight end. After we just had graduated a big ole senior and [the coaches] came to me and I was a sophomore. They took a chance with me and I made the most of it.”
The six-foot-three, 238 pound, tight end can play from multiple spots: on the outside, at the y (on the line of scrimmage with his hand in the dirt) or at the slot. He has speed and hands to match with the fact that he is hard to bring down.
In 2015 as a sophomore, he recorded 28 receptions, 378 yards (13.5 yards per catch) and six touchdowns. In his junior year, he has recorded 15 receptions, 235 yards (15.7 yards per catch) and two touchdowns so far for the Sulphur Golden Tors.
“I feel at the tight end spot I can honestly do anything. I think I’m just fast enough to play slot if I need to. To get down on the line, I feel like I’m big enough to bang up with big players and these SEC type guys,” he said. “I feel like I can bang with them within a year or two weight training in a college program. I’m confident in my hands, I feel that anything that comes to me, I‘ll be able to catch it.”
Christian Trahan knows that football is about more than X’s and O’s.
“Good character. I understand that football is not all about just football. It’s more than that. I go to church, I worship God and I just believe that football, it’s not just about the sport, it’s about what you get out of it. That’s how every player should look at it and that’s what I could bring to a team on and off the field.”
Part two of the Golden Tors journey to the Superdome begins Friday and Trahan will be ready to produce.

The Sulphur Golden Tors finished the 2016 season with an 8-4 (5-1 Division) record after 50-28 loss to Landry-Walker High School in the second round of the Division 3-5A Louisiana state playoffs.
Christian Trahan recorded 25 receptions, 381 yards (15.2 yards per catch) and four touchdowns in 2016 and was picked as a District 3-5A first-team offensive selection.

The Sulphur Golden Tors are Division 3-5A champions. The Golden Tors finished the regular season 7-3 (5-1 District) after beating the Sam Houston Broncos (1-9, 1-5 District), 42-28 on Friday, Nov. 4. They now share the division title with their two rivals Arcadia High School (8-2, 6-1 District) and Barbe High School (8-1, 5-1 District). They have also secured a first-round home playoff game, their first since 2007 according to Rodrick Anderson of the American Press. See his breakdown of the Sam Houston game.

The Sulphur Golden Tors will play their first playoff game as the 12th seed against the 21 seed Airline Vikings (6-4, 3-3 District) at home on Friday, Nov. 11.
