The New York Giants put on an offensive clinic at MetLife Stadium in a win over the Philadelphia Eagles. This game was big for the Giants coming out of their bye week and having everyone healthy. The Eagles early on in the season were looking like the team that would sit at the top of the NFC East all season long, but recently they have been struggling.
The Dallas Cowboys are the team that is at the top and both the Giants and Eagles needed a win to stay close in the standings. The Giants got out to an early lead and that helped them throughout the game.
The recurring issue with the Giants offense is time of possession. They still cannot hold on to the ball and that became an issue at the end of the game. During the last drive for the Eagles they had an opportunity to score a touchdown and end the game. The Eagles had possession for 32:40 while the Giants only had the ball for 27:20.
It is good that the Giants offense scored early in the game and continued to score throughout the game and held the lead. The Eagles offense did have a good game on the ground against the Giants defense, but the Giants stopped them when they needed to.
The Giants had a problem containing Darren Sproles not only on offense, but on special teams as well. During a punt return Sproles ran through the Giants defense for 66 yards and would have scored if he did not step out of bounds. Sproles would only have 57 yards on 13 carries coming out of the back field, but did play a big role in the game getting key first downs.
Eagles quarter back Carson Wentz had a rough day against the Giants defense throwing 2 interceptions and getting sacked twice. Wentz did have 364 yards through the air yesterday getting his team in position to score.
Eli Manning had a great performance against the Eagles getting all of the scoring in the game done through the air. Manning threw for 257 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Giants have a very strong wide receiving core and they all got involved in the game. Victor Cruz had a great catch for a 46 yard gain and that would be the play that ended his game after he injured his ankle.
Odell Beckham Jr. was targeted 10 times by Manning and caught two touchdowns. Manning also hit Sterling Shepard and Roger Lewis for touchdowns. The Giants could not do much on the ground having only 54 rushing yards between Paul Perkins and Rashad Jennings.
The Eagles tried to go for it on 4th and short twice during the game and got stopped both times by the Giants defense on both attempts. The Giants defense bailed them out and those stops helped the Giants keep the momentum during the game. The Giants had a few big plays in this game that keep the team motivated throughout the game.
The interceptions were big, but one of the biggest plays of the game was a blocked field goal by Jason Pierre-Paul with 1:19 remaining in the 2nd quarter. That play helped the Giants keep the game at a two score deficit going into half time. The Giants have to catch up to the Cowboys in the NFC East and with the way they are playing it is possible for them to do so.
