Which Smaller Sports Can Give You A Bigger Win Than The Mainstream Sports?

4 Min Read

Thousands of sporting bets are placed worldwide every single day, most commonly on football (soccer) and American Football. The English Premier League and NFL Super Bowl are just two of the
biggest events on the sporting calendar. While there are no guarantees in sports betting, as we are unable to predict the future, there are a number of less mainstream sports that you can potentially profit from.

Here we take a look at some sports you might consider when you are next in the mood to place a wager.

Tennis

Unless you’re a big fan of the sport, tennis can be considered quite seasonal in the UK. Some people won’t even consider the sports existence outside of Wimbledon season. There are no draws in tennis so you’re only ever betting on one player to win against another. However, you might also like to bet on the overall winner of a tournament or how long a particular match will last. Some early games can be over really quickly when a highly ranked player plays somebody who is unseeded.

Whereas, in the later stages, when evenly matched players face each other, the matches can tend to last a very long time. The 2009 Wimbledon Final lasted over four hours.

MMA

Mixed Martial Arts isn’t as popular in the United Kingdom as it is in the USA (although brands like the UFC are gradually becoming more popular) which means that you can generally get better odds on any specific fight. Draws are very rare in MMA as even if there is no knock-out or submission before the end of the scheduled rounds, a winner is then determined according to the judges scores.

When you’re only betting on a particular fighter to win or lose you have a 50/50 chance of the bet coming in, unlike league football, for example, where there are three potential outcomes. If you really know your MMA then and feel confident you may consider on specific outcomes such as how the fight will finish or how many rounds it will last. Former Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Ronda Rousey has been known to finish a few of her fights in a matter of seconds.

Ice Hockey

There are not many sports that are popular in both Europe and North America, but ice hockey is one of them. The National Hockey League (NHL) remains the most popular worldwide, but there are also a number of major European leagues.

There is a slight difference between the two as a draw is an option in European ice hockey but not in the NHL, where there must be a winner. The most common type of wager is to bet on one team to beat the other but you can also take the ‘Grand Salami’ bet, where you place a wager over or under a total number of combined goals on any given day.
