It appears that Rex Ryan is likely coaching his final game for the Buffalo Bills.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ryan is probably approaching his final games as the Bills’ head coach. Meanwhile, general manager Doug Whaley is expected to remain with the organization from this point forward.
Ryan is reportedly aware of the grim situation regarding his status.
The Bills have not made the playoffs since 1999 ans are struggling to a 6-7 record this season. Buffalo has lost 2 straight and 5 of their last 7 games.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor has also seemed to regress this year, adding more fuel to the fire on the seat of Rex Ryan. It’s unclear if Ryan will be back to an NFL sideline next season but if he does return, with some team, it is unlikely it will be as a head coach.
While Ryan has long been considered one of the NFL’s top defensive minds, his team’s offenses have more-often-than-not been subpar and he has not proven to be a solid enough head coach to warrant a 3rd opportunity just yet.
However as jobs open up around the league, expect Ryan’s name to be a part of the rumor mill cycle. The Los Angeles Rams boast a young talented defense that would appeal to Ryan, but his shortcomings in grooming an effective offense may scare the Rams, who have rookie Jared Goff to develop, away.
