Fantasy Football Start/Sit: Week 14

19 Min Read

In most leagues the fantasy playoffs begin this week so it’s do or die going forward for everyone who made playoffs. Good luck to all of you who have made playoffs, I wish fantasy goodness for you. For everyone who didn’t make playoffs don’t just let your lineups go, you’ve made it this far why quit now? My decisions are based on PPR scoring.

QBs to start in Week 14:

Andy Dalton (vs. Browns): I avoided starting Dalton in Week 13 after seeing him struggle in Week 12 where he was without A.J Green & Giovanni Bernard. In Week 13 he was without those 2 weapons again but he was able to throw all over the porous Eagles secondary. Of course I ended up sitting Dalton for Kaepernick this past week (Dalton had 21, Kaepernick had 2). This week Dalton faces the Browns who gives up the 2nd most points to QBs this season so he could be in for another good fantasy week.

Philip Rivers (vs. Panthers): Rivers has struggled a little bit the past few weeks but should be able to get back on track this week against the weak Panthers secondary. Rivers is coming off a 14 point performance against a Buccaneers defense that seems to be playing a lot better than they did earlier in the season. Panthers allow the 7th most points to QBs so Rivers should be able to have a nice fantasy performance this week.

Colin Kaepernick (vs. Jets): Yeah, I know he slapped everyone in the face who started him last week (including me) by scoring just 2 points & got pulled for Blaine Gabbert in that game. This past week against the Bears it was snowing so it was hard to pass but 49ers are at home this week.  Kaepernick has been announced as the starter for this week against the Jets. Again Kaepernick before last week was the 2nd highest scoring QB in fantasy the previous 4 weeks only behind Aaron Rodgers. Kaepernick should be fine again against a Jets defense that allows the 14th most points to opposing QBs.

My Star QB of the Week: Drew Brees (vs. Buccaneers): I had Brees as my star QB last week & he failed me by failing to throw a touchdown & also added 3 interceptions at home against the Lions. It was a bizarre day for Brees so I believe he comes back with a big performance this week against the Bucs. The Saints are essentially out of the playoff race so they could play spoilers for the Bucs this week by winning & Brees could be the reason for that. Bucs allow the 15th most points to opposing QBs.

Under the Radar QB: Carson Palmer (vs. Dolphins): Palmer is coming off his best fantasy week last week where he had 300 yards & 3 touchdowns for a total of 24 points. I’m not big on starting Palmer if you have a better option but in deeper leagues he might not be a bad option this week with his favorable matchup. The Dolphins have allowed the 5th most points to QBs this season so far.

QBs to sit in Week 14:

Marcus Mariota (vs. Broncos): I’m not saying to absolutely avoid Mariota especially since he’s been very good this season but with his tough matchup this week I’d take a look at available QBs for a guy to fill in for this week. Mariota is the 4th highest scoring QB in fantasy this season so he might be a guy you must start but if a guy like Andy Dalton is available I might start him over Mariota. Broncos allow the least amount of points to QBs this season.

Blake Bortles (vs. Vikings): Obviously if you’re starting Bortles at this point in the season you’re most likely not in the playoffs. Bortles is continually a guy you rely on to get you most of his fantasy points at the end of games where he’s usually down double digits. With just the eye test Bortles is a poor NFL quarterback & this week I’m absolutely avoiding him against the Vikings who allow the 2nd least amount of points to QBs.

RBs to start in Week 14:

Jeremy Hill (vs. Browns): Hill has become a bigger part of the Bengals offense the past 2 weeks where they’ve been without Gio Bernard & A.J Green. Last week Hill might’ve had 23 carries for just 33 yards but he did score a touchdown & the volume is there. He also faced a tough front seven of the Eagles where as he’ll be taking on the Browns this week. The Browns allow the 2nd most points to RBs this season so far.

Spencer Ware (vs. Raiders): Ware is coming off a week where he scored 19 points against the Falcons in Week 13. Ware is heavily involved in the running & passing game for the Chiefs which helps him be a nice fantasy option. Ware is facing the Raiders this week who have allowed the 5th most points to opposing RBs.

Doug Martin (vs. Saints): Doug Martin has definitely been a focal point of the Bucs offense since coming back from injury. Martin has gotten 17+ touches since Week 10. Martin had only 13 points last week which isn’t too bad but he also played a surprisingly good run defense in the Chargers. This week he faces the Saints who allow the 7th most points to RBs.

My Star RB of the Week: LeSean McCoy (vs. Steelers): McCoy has had an impressive year yet again in his 2nd season with the Bills. McCoy is currently the 6th best fantasy RB this season. McCoy is coming off back to back 26+ point performances & faces a Steelers defense that allows the 6th most points to RBs.

Under the Radar RB: Darren Sproles (vs. Redskins): Sproles hasn’t been great or consistent this season but he is coming off a 16 point performance in Week 13. Sproles has a defined in this offense & that expands especially if Ryan Matthews is out with injury again this week. This week Sproles faces the Redskins who allow the 4th most points to RBs.

RBs to sit in Week 14:

Rashad Jennings (vs. Cowboys): Jennings isn’t that viable of a fantasy option most weeks anyways but this week he faces a tough run defense in the Cowboys this week. Jennings has scored only 2 rushing touchdowns all season & with Shane Vereen likely being back he probably see less targets in the passing game. The Cowboys have allowed the 3rd least amount of points to RBs.

Terrance West (vs. Patriots): West has been a solid fantasy RB this season but is starting to see touches go to rookie Kenneth Dixon so he’s slowly losing value. West did have a nice week in Week 13 against the Dolphins but he faces a much tougher run defense in the Patriots this week. The Patriots allow the 6th least amount of points to RBs this season.

WRs to start in Week 14:

Demaryius Thomas (vs. Titans) This decision is based purely on the fact I believe Trevor Siemian will be back as the starter. If not totally ignore this decision. Thomas has had a solid year this year even with having QB injuries & issues. Thomas has had 5+ catches in every week since Week 2 so his floor might be one of the highest for WRs in PPR leagues. This week he faces the Titans who allow the 3rd most points to WRs.

Jamison Crowder (vs. Eagles): The Eagles secondary is absolutely dreadful. The Bengals walked in without A.J Green & Gio Bernard & allow Brandon Lafell to get 5 catches for 95 yards & a touchdown. No offense to Lafell but he isn’t a great WR in the NFL. Crowder on the other hand is a good WR that has played well all season. Crowder is the number 1 option in a pass heavy offense & they face the Eagles who allow the 6th most points to WRs.

Golden Tate (vs. Bears): Tate is coming off his 2nd best week where he had 8 catches for 145 yards & a touchdown. Tate has slowly become the number 1 receiver for Matthew Stafford as it seemed early on it was going to be Marvin Jones. This week Tate faces the Bears who don’t have a great secondary & who allow the 12th most points to WRs.

My Star WR of the Week: Mike Evans (vs. Saints): Evans is one of the only options Jameis Winston has to throw to & Mike Evans has solidified himself as one of the best WRs in the NFL in my opinion. Evans might be coming off his worst week where he had just 8 points in Week 13 against the Chargers but he faces the Saints this week who allow the 13th most points to WRs.

Under the Radar WR: Dontrelle Inman (vs. Panthers): Inman has been hot & cold all year but the last couple of weeks Philip Rivers seems to be looking his way more. The last 2 weeks he has 8 catches for 168 yards & 2 touchdowns. The Panthers are a mess right now & their glaring weakness is their secondary. Panthers allow the 7th most points to WRs this year.

WRs to sit in Week 14:

Rishard Matthews (vs. Broncos): I know, Matthews has been a savior for a lot of people in fantasy but his matchup this week is really tough to go against. Matthews has scored 13+ points in the last 5 games & has had a touchdown in 4 out of the last 5. The thing is he didn’t face the Broncos defense in those games who allow the least amount of points to WRs.

Allen Robinson (vs. Vikings): Robinson is definitely up there for most disappointing player in fantasy this season. It’s not his fault though as he’s very talented but his QB is awful (same thing for guys like Marshall & Hopkins). Robinson has scored 8 or less fantasy points in 5 of the 12 games he’s played in. This week he faces the Vikings who allow the 2nd least amount of points to WRs.

TEs to start in Week 14:

Antonio Gates (vs. Panthers): Gates is still a good TE in the NFL & just a couple weeks ago he had a streak of 3 games where he scored a touchdown. Gates has struggled the past 2 weeks where he’s scored 0 points & 7 points. The thing is that’s how a lot of TEs have been this season. He faces the Panthers this week who allow the most points to TEs so we might see him get back on track this week.

C.J Fiedorowicz (vs. Colts): C.J has been the most consistent receiving option for the Texans especially with Brock Osweiler struggling. He’s had 3+ catches in every game since Week 4 so his floor is pretty high for a TE in fantasy in PPR leagues. This week he faces the Colts who allow the 10th most points to TEs.

My Star TE of the Week: Tyler Eifert (vs. Browns): Andy Dalton is running out of weapons but one guy who is still healthy is Tyler Eifert. Eifert is coming off back to back games where he’s scored touchdowns & seems to be the go to guy in the red zone for Dalton. This week he faces the Browns so he could be back in the end zone for the 3rd straight week.

Under the Radar TE: Lance Kendricks (vs. Falcons): Kendricks seems to be a safety blanket for rookie Jared Goff in the 3 games he’s started in so far. Kendricks has 10 catches for 102 yards & a touchdown in those 3 games so his ceiling is low but his floor might be high for a TE. He also faces the Falcons who allow the 5th most points to TEs so that helps him.

TEs to sit in Week 14:

Dwayne Allen (vs. Texans): What the heck got into Allen on Monday Night? I believe this game was just a one time thing where you play the Jets & you go off. Allen scored 3 touchdowns in Week 13 which was more touchdowns than he scored the rest of the season (had 2 coming into the Monday Night game). Allen faces the Texans who aren’t the Jets & allow the 5th least amount of points to TEs.

Martellus Bennett (vs. Ravens): Bennett hasn’t been used nearly as much as we expected he would when Gronk when down with injury. Bennett in the 3 games he’s started since Gronk got hurt has just 6 catches for 40 yards for a total of 10 points. Bennett seems to be a decoy at this point. He faces the Ravens who allow the 4th least amount of points to TEs so it’s hard to see him get back on track this week.

DEF/STs to start in Week 14:

Detroit Lions (vs. Bears): The Lions defense is coming off an impressive performance against Drew Brees & the Saints where they didn’t allow a passing touchdown & intercepted Brees 3 times. The Lions defense seems to be getting hot at the right time as they see the Chicago Bears come to town led by Matt Barkley. Matt Barkley is all I need to hear to start the Lions defense.

Cincinnati Bengals (vs. Browns): The Bengals had a great defensive performance in Week 13 against the Eagles where they intercepted Carson Wentz 3 times. The Bengals defense has had an interception in 6 straight games & I see that continuing regardless of who starts at QB for the Browns.

DEF/STs to sit in Week 14:

Buffalo Bills (vs. Steelers): The Bills defense struggled to stop anything the Raiders were doing last week as they allowed 38 points & this week they face the red hot Steelers offense. Bills defense has only 8 turnovers forced all year & have gotten only 3 sacks the past 3 weeks I’m avoiding them especially if I’m in the fantasy playoffs.

New York Giants (vs. Cowboys): The Giants are coming off a game where they allowed 24 points to the Steelers but also got an interception & forced a fumble. They had a solid game against the Steelers & now they face the Cowboys who are running all over everybody. It doesn’t help that Giants will probably be without Jason Pierre-Paul the rest of the season.
