The Sacramento Kings squeaked to victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in overtime Wednesday night. The 116-112 loss was the third in a row for Cleveland, according to NBA TV, with two of those losses in overtime.
But it wasn’t score everybody was talking about this morning; the Kings also smoked the Cavs on Twitter. As CBS stated, Sacramento playfully trolled them to death and such is losing a basketball game in the age of social media.
A shot of Boogie Cousins handing over an L while Laron’s voice is saying; “Cleveland this is for you!” In another Tweet there’s an L entangled with a sword reading; “This one’s for the Land…”
But on the court the drama came during the fourth quarter, according to Yahoo News.
It came during a jump ball between Kings center Willie Cauley-Stein and the Cavs giant Tristan Thompson, with only 2:00 remaining and the hosts up 101-100. In what can only be described as an awkward moment, Thompson won the jump, because Cauley-Stein wasn’t even given an opportunity, like going scuba diving in Waikiki.
The referees thankfully redid the jump, this time a crisis was averted with Thompson winning the second attempt fair and square.
That moment gave way to a thrilling end. LeBron James pulled off two free throws on the very next possession to stretch Cleveland’s lead to three. Sacramento struck right back, though, as Cauley-Stein dunked at the 38 second mark, cutting the margin to 103-102.
Just following that, Kyrie Irving split a pair of free throws which gave the Kings an opportunity to pull off a win. The likely All-Star Demarcus Cousins didn’t disappoint the crowd when he tied with a bucket and attempting a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The OT quarter was very much the same back and forth and Cleveland took control midway through the quarter 111-106. The crowd was thinking this may be it, but Sacramento battled back with a one point lead following a Darren Collision lay-in with only 35 seconds left.
Although Cleveland had a brief chance to recover, but it wasn’t enough as Cousins and the Kings ran out the clock for the win.
