Los Angeles Rams Tag Trumaine Johnson
The Los Angeles Rams have ensured that cornerback Trumaine Johnson isn’t leaving Southern California. The team has announced that it has placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Johnson ahead of Wednesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.
Johnson was tagged for the 2nd year in a row, becoming the first defensive back to get tagged in back-to-back seasons since Charles Woodson back in 2004 and 2005 (h/t NFL.com), and is due to make $16.8 million, not too shabby.
Rams general manager Les Snead had the following to say to the Los Angeles Times regarding Johnson, back in January of this year.
“Wade (Phillips), like a lot of (defensive coordinators), likes good players on the outside,” Snead told The Los Angeles Times. “Trumaine fits that category … Trumaine is a larger guy with good ball skills and all things like that.”
Johnson, 27, was a third-round pick in the 2012 draft.
