When I interviewed Blake Veargis back in August 2016, he had no scholarship offers going into his junior year.
Three things have changed since then: He now is a three star scout.com prospect, he holds 13 offers from: Nebraska, Arizona, University of California, NC State, North Carolina, Texas A&M and others. He also has transferred from Monsignor Pace High School to Miami Norland Senior High School in Miami Gardens, Florida. Check out his junior highlights.
“I’m glad and excited that I have three stars but to be honest, in my head, it doesn’t mean anything. Just because I have three stars and I have offers, I am still eager to make it to the next level just the same way I was eight months ago when I had zero stars and zero offers.”
He transferred to Norland because the kind of formation that Monsignor Pace ran their offense out of (Wing-T) was a running formation and he wanted to get the ball more and a better educational opportunity.
“I’m going to bring my hard work and dedication to the team and hopefully we will end the season with all the seniors going to college and the team winning the state championship,” he said about what he will bring with him to Norland.

From his freshman year to now, Blake Veargis is much wiser and more eager to be the top wide receiver in the class of 2018. His game has changed a lot now that he is under the direction of Norland Head Football Coach Daryle Heidelburg and Coach Jacquay Nunnally, Norland Offensive Coordinator. He said they have expanded his skills as a wide receiver.
As far as what he still has to learn, he said, getting out of his cuts cleaner when route running and getting stronger are priorities for him in his ongoing learning process.
As far as his recruiting process goes in the near future, he said that he will take his college visits in the summer and will make a top 10 list in the middle of his senior season.
The advice Blake Veargis would like to give other recruits about the process is simple. Never give up because you never know what can happen. Just give it time.
When asked if how he got to this point, going from no offers and no stars to three stars and 13 offers, he had this to say.
“I couldn’t tell you how I did it but I could tell you that I just stayed dedicated to the game and kept working hard.”
