Boston Bruins Officially Name Bruce Cassidy Head Coach

1 Min Read

The Boston Bruins officially named Bruce Cassidy as their head coach, removing the ‘interim’ tag and making Cassidy the 28th head coach in franchise history.

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney made the announcement.

Cassidy took over for Claude Julien when Julien was fired and led the Bruins to a 18-8-1 record and an appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After Boston was eliminated from postseason contention, Cassidy was asked if he wanted the head coaching position.

Cassidy made it clear by telling CBS Boston; “Absolutely, 100 percent”

Cassidy knows the Bruins system well having served as head coach of Boston’s farm team, the Providence Bruins, from 2011 through 2016 before becoming an assistant on Julien’s staff.

Prior to that Cassidy led the Washington Capitals to the playoffs during his stint as the team’s head coach in 2002-2003.

Cassidy leading Boston to the playoffs marked the first time the Bruins have reached the postseason since the 2013-14 season.

The Bruins looks like a completely different team under Cassidy’s direction and the future is bright in Boston with Cassidy at the helm
