A group that includes former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and led by ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has reached an agreement to purchase the Miami Marlins after submitting a bid of $1.3 billion, per ESPN who cited multiple media reports.
Reports from the Miami Herald and Bloomberg indicate the current Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has reached an agreement to sell the team to the Bush-Jeter group after their bid won the auction ahead of other potential buyers for exclusive negotiating rights.
Major League Baseball would still need to approve the deal and reports indicate that there is no contract as of this point and stressed that there is a long way to go in this process.
“I have not commented on the process and plan to keep it that way, thank you,” Miami Marlins president David Samson said to the Miami Herald.
In 2002, Loria bout the Marlins organization, then known as the Florida Marlins, for $158.5 million
