Eagles' Hoping LeGarrette Blount Sets Tempo For Offense -

It was a little surprising to see former New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount remain on the free agency market, with little to no interest, for as long as he did.

Coming off a 1,000 yard season (yes, those are still impressive), 18 touchdowns and a Super Bowl championship, Blount was expected to have a more active market despite only averaging 3.9 yards per carry last season.

Blount was linked to the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions but it was another NFC team that swooped in to sign the power runner – the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles, who have a crowded backfield as it is are hoping Blount balances their offensive attack and general manager Howie Roseman believes that he will “set the tempo”.

“We’re always looking for complementary players when we go over our roster and positions,” Roseman said when talking to the Eagles’ official website.

“Obviously, LeGarrette had a tremendous amount of success with New England last year, rushing for over 1,000 yards and scoring 18 touchdowns and winning a Super Bowl. He sets the tempo for your team as a running back.”

Roseman is hoping that Blount’s skillset compliments that of fellow Eagles’ running backs Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, Donnell Pumphrey and Corey Clement.

“He can run between the tackles and he can drag tacklers down the field. He can do everything you look for in the running game” Roseman said.

“He had runs of plus-20 yards and he’s won two Super Bowls in the last four years. For us, people are going to see that his size is what jumps out at you, but he’s also got quick feet for a big man. He has a complementary skill set that works well in our backfield.”

If all goes according to plan, the Eagles could have one of the more exciting and well-balanced offenses in the NFL.
