The Minnesota Vikings are taking a chance on wide receiver Michael Floyd.
Today, the team announced that they signed the free-agent receiver to a 1-year deal worth $1.5 million. According to ESPN, incentives could raise that total to $6 million.
I’m not surprised Floyd landed in Minnesota, I thought he might land in Baltimore, given their need for receiver depth, but the Vikings are a good fit.
The Vikings are hoping Floyd will get his career back on track in his home state.
Floyd, who played last season with the Arizona Cardinals and the New England Patriots, could still face NFL discipline due to his December 12th, 2016 arrest for DUI in Arizona.
Floyd was sentenced to 24 days in prison and 96 days of house arrest on February 17th.
Before his arrest and eventual release from the Cardinals, Floyd was important part of the Cards offense and a downfield threat.
in 2013, Floyd caught 65 passes for 1,041 yards and 5 touchdowns, his best season in terms of production.
Floyd’s addition to the Vikings’ receiving corps gives Minnesota a player to compete with Laquon Treadwell, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, giving the team a much needed downfield threat.
The stars are aligning for Floyd to find redemption in Minnesota, it’s on him to make that potential come to fruition.
