Fans of the New York Mets have waited a long time to see Amed Rosario play for their team. It appears as though they might finally get the chance to watch one of the top prospects in baseball showcase his talent.
According to a report from Jon Heyman, Rosario could be called up in a week or two. In all likelihood, he probably will not be promoted until after the trade deadline on July 31. This means that we could be getting our first glimpse of Rosario in a Mets uniform very soon.

The Mets decision to keep Rosario in the minor leagues for the entire season thus far has been a point of contention among their fans. The 21-year-old shortstop has been putting up good numbers for the Las Vegas 51s in Triple-A this year. In 89 games, he is batting .328 with seven home runs and 56 RBIs. He also has 17 steals.
While Rosario continues to prove that he is ready to be promoted, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has decided hold back on calling him up. A lot of this probably has to do with the fact that Rosario is only 21. He clearly developed very quickly, but is still a young player. This does not mean that he cannot have immediate success at the Major League level. Some players thrive right away, despite being very young. When Bryce Harper made his Major League debut for the Washington Nationals in 2012, he was only 19 years old. He smacked 22 home runs and won the NL Rookie of the Year Award that season.
Rosario is one of the top prospects in baseball. MLB.com recently ranked him the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball. Baseball America ranked him as the No. 4 overall prospect. Their is no doubting his potential. Rosario is a speedy shortstop who is a good contact hitter. He also has some power. Rosario has all the makings of a future MLB star.
Alderson will probably wait until after the trade deadline to call up Rosario. The reason being is that a spot might open up in the Mets infield after the deadline. The Mets are reportedly fielding offers for a few players, including Asdrubal Cabrera, Lucas Duda, Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce. If Cabrera is traded, then Jose Reyes would most likely move back to third base. This would leave shortstop open for Rosario. In that event, the Mets would have the chance to see what Rosario can do as an everyday player for a few months.
At 47-51, the Mets do not look like a team that will be playing baseball in October this year. The fans need something to look forward to during the last two months of the season. Promoting Rosario would certainly generate some excitement in Queens. The way things are going, that excitement could be coming very soon.
