Red Sox Boost Bullpen By Adding Mets Addison Reed

1 Min Read

The Boston Red Sox just added a major upgrade to their bullpen on Monday.

Boston has reached a trade agreement for New York Mets closer Addison Reed, per Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports and Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reported that the Mets will receive pitching prospects Stephen Nogosek, Jamie Callahan and Gerson Bautista as part of the trade.

The Mets, who have been ravaged by injuries this season, had few players playing as good as Reed has this season.

Reed, who took over for an injured Jeurys Familia in May, posted a 2.57 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 49.0 innings.

Reed, 28, is due to become a free agent after this season, so the Mets willingness to trade him is sensible.

The Red Sox get one of the National League’s better bullpen performers of 2017 in a divisional battle with the New York Yankees that looks like it will come down to the wire.
