Mexican Featherweight Masio Fullen headlined the Brave 4 show in Abu Dhabi for a chance to become the promotion’s first ever champion. In a back and forth 1st round, he fell short in his pursuit and was submitted by Elias Boudegzdame.
He threw a thunderous overhand right which planted Elias, a punch that fractured his hand. He then secured top position on the ground where he ended up getting caught in a triangle choke submission.
“The referee did an excellent job,” Fullen said on Marc Goddard’s decision to allow Elias to recover. “This sport always shows us that we have to continue working but especially my ground game. I am investing a lot of time to that now thanks to the injury.”
With the title fight loss behind him, Fullen is focusing on a full recovery.
“The hand is recovering day by day,” Fullen said. “I had a metacarpal fracture and I hope to be ready for November.”
Brave is set to host their biggest show yet this November in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It will take place as part of the big weekend that includes the IMMAF World Championships. With no opponent in mind, Fullen just hopes he’ll be ready in time for the big show.
“I am here to fight whoever Brave says,” Fullen said. “I cannot wait to have something signed and return to the cage to give them more wars. I’m looking for that show in November; I just hope to be healed and ready to go.”
Before Brave heads to Bahrain in November, they are holding two big shows, one of them in Masio’s home country of Mexico.
“I’m not upset,” Masio said on missing Brave 7 in Tijuana. “I understand my situation perfectly and I’m very excited to see a lot of my friends forming the card for this Brave event in Mexico.”
November is projected to hold the anticipated featherweight title fight between newly crowned champion Elias Boudegzdame and number one contender Lucas Mineiro. Mineiro is also currently recovering from a hand injury and Fullen will definitely have his eyes on the championship fight.
“I have no favorite,” Fullen said on the match up. “Respect to the champion and the challenger but in the same way I go after them too.”
