Pelicans’ DeMarcus Cousins Actively Recruiting Players To Join Him In New Orleans

2 Min Read

Although the New Orleans Pelicans re-signed point guard Jrue Holiday (5-years $150 million) and signed Rajon Rondo in free agency the offseason has been relatively quiet.

New Orleans big man DeMarcus Cousins, who came over in a trade from the Sacramento Kings in February of this year, says he did a lot of recruiting in an effort to get more premier talent on the Pelicans roster.

“We want to win. We need as much talent and as many pieces as we can get” Cousins said per NOLA.com’s Will Guillory.

“I’ve reached out to everybody. I mean, I don’t want to throw names out there, but some of the biggest names that are on the block right now I’ve reached out to.

It’s just about being better.”

Cousins, like everyone else, has seen the big offseason in the NBA and teams like the Houston RocketsOklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves making deals to bring premier talent together under one roster.

“We see where the NBA is going, we need as much help and as much talent as we can get just to match up with the reigning champs” Cousins said.

“(I’m) just trying to better the situation. We’re fully invested in this and we want to win.”

New Orleans will compete in a deep Western Conference where the Golden State Warriors reign supreme at the moment.

Teams like Houston, San Antonio, Minnesota and Oklahoma City have all made significant improvements this summer.
