5 Piece With a Biscuit: Week 1 NFL Picks

4 Min Read

This season we are planning to do a weekly pick segment (for entertainment purposes only) to see how we stack up against the pros. We’ll pick 5 games every week against the spread and keep a running log of how we are doing. Most of our picks won’t be founded on a lot of statistical analysis because we want to make this fun.

In other words we rely on that gut feeling.

Week 1 picks are tough because we really don’t know who will be good and there are no trends that are set. So the journey starts now and feel free to keep a log and let us know how you did against our “expert” picks.

Week 1

Kansas City @ New England (spread: New England -8)

We aren’t entirely sure what the Pats are against the spread but we have a sneaky feeling that is pretty good. The only analysis you need for this game is Tom Brady. The guy is pretty good and even though Amendola is gone for the season he will make things happen. Our pick: Pats cover. Win by 10

Tampa Bay @ Miami (spread: Mia -2.5)

I’m usually opposed to picking road teams but this is week 1 and why the hell not. The expectations are huge down in Tampa and it is time for Hard Knocks sensation Jameis Winston to take that next step. Despite all of the flack Jay Cutler is still a servicable Quarterback with a big who can burn you if you aren’t careful. Our pick: Bucs

Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor throws against the New York Jets during second quarter action at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016. (Harry Scull Jr./Buffalo News)

NY Jets @ Buffalo (spread: Buff +7)

If I had to sit down and name 5 positive things to say about the Jets I would probably be sitting there doodling for a long time. I’m big on Tyrod Taylor and Lesean McCoy plus the Bills will be home. The points don’t scare me. Our pick: Bills

Atlanta @ Chicago (spread: Chi -7)

I do believe that the Falcons will take a step back offensively this year. I don’t believe that they will take enough steps back for the Bears to pass them this Sunday. Yes the Birds are the road team and I actually like the Glennon kid but .. nah. Our pick: Falcons cover

NY Giants @ Dallas  (spread: Dal -3.5)

Nothing like a good NFC East battle to start off the NFL season. The absence of Ezekial Elliott will be big for the boys but Darren McFadden is fully capable to run behind that Cowboys front line. I like the addition of Brandon Marshall to this unit but I think they will be over-matched in Dallas. Our pick: Dallas covers.
