Carolina Panthers Could Sell For More Than $2.8 Billion

The Carolina Panthers could reportedly be sold for as much as $2.8 billion, according to the Charlotte Observer’s Jourdan Rodrigue and Katherine Peralta.

According to the report, current owner Jerry Richardson and his minority partners could fetch anywhere between $2.3 and $2.8 billion for sale of the franchise, a hefty price tag and an enormous haul.

The Panther’s are currently estimated to be worth at $2.3 billion, which ranks 21st out of the 32 NFL teams, according to Forbes valuation (Forbes Sports Money).

Hedge fund manager and philanthropist David Tepper is considered to be the “leader in the clubhouse” to buy the Panthers from Richardson’s team, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

In addition to Tepper, former UFC owner Frank Fertitta is also in the mix, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.
