Is The Star Dimming For Dez Bryant?

3 Min Read

Dez Bryant, the Wide Receiver from Oklahoma State University was drafted in the first round with the 24th overall pick in 2010. In 133 games Bryant has played in he has only 99 games. He has 931 receptions, 7459 yards, and 73 touchdowns. In his 8 years, he has played in three playoff games.

On the field, Dez Bryant is the best wide receiver since Hall of Famer Michael Irvin. However, he has had a troubled history off the field.

Bryant had a troubled upbringing, born to a 15-year-old mother who was arrested for dealing crack cocaine when Bryant was eight years old. He went on to live in eight different homes while attending Lufkin High School. Bryant has two sons, Zayne, 7, and Dez, Jr., 4.

Bryant was sued in March 2011 for $861,350 for legal fees and the cost of jewelry, which he acquired on credit while a student-athlete. The case was settled before court proceedings for between $400,000 and $500,000.

On July 16, 2012, Bryant was arrested on a class A misdemeanor domestic violence charge for allegedly striking his biological mother, Angela Bryant. In March 2013, Bryant spoke at an event for Dallas Men Against Abuse. At the event, he stated, “I’m done with domestic abuse.

On August 28, 2014, Bryant launched his official brand and apparel line, ThrowUpTheX.

On June 22, 2016, Bryant was sued by Texas state senator Royce West for damaging a rented house in DeSoto, Texas. Damage to the rental house totaled over $60,000

Right now, Dez has a contract that is worth $70,000 for five years and a $20,000 signing bonus. But, heading into 2018, Bryant’s contract is almost up and the Cowboys and Dez are trying to negotiating a new deal.

During the off-season, the Cowboys were requesting Bryant to take a pay cut. Dez refused and since the request, have not spoken to one another.

But, this Friday, that will all change. According to Mike Fisher of 1053 The Fan and other sources, Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones are set to speak with Bryant on Friday. They expect the meeting to be about cutting the troubled Wide Receiver and a not about a new contract. So, if he is cut by the Cowboys, teams like the New York Jets, Houston Texans, and the Oakland Raiders are three teams that are interested in Bryant’s services. Expect a third-round pick in 2019 to be the set price to pick him up.
