Former UCLA and NBA basketball player Tyler Honeycutt was found dead at the age of 27 after engaging in a standoff with police officers on Friday night, according to KABC-TV in Los Angeles.

Per the report, Honeycutt’s mother called authorities to let them know her son was “acting erratically”, and, when officers arrived, Honeycutt opened fire and barricaded himself inside the property.

Honeycutt was found dead at the scene after a SWAT team entered the residence, according to So Cal News Group’s James H. Williams.

The police put out the following statement:

“SWAT entered the residence and located an unresponsive male,” per the Los Angeles Police Department. “LAFD responded and pronounced the male dead at [the] scene. Investigators from our Force Investigation Division are at [the] scene conducting a thorough investigation, and we will provide more details as they become available.”

Honeycutt played for UCLA from 2009-11 and was then drafted by the Sacramento Kings, 35th overall, in 2011, playing only 24 games in 2 seasons.
