Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp Says Steven Gerrard Has Made ‘Brilliant’ Start

4 Min Read

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has called Steven Gerrard’s start as a senior manager at Rangers “brilliant”, showing how impressed he is with how things have gone thus far for Gerrard, who left his role as Liverpool’s under-18s coach over the summer to take charge of Rangers.

Gerrard has led the Rangers to amazing success, having already guided the team to the group stages of a European competition for the first time since 2010-2011 after qualifying for Europa League.

“I have seen a few games because Stevie has three of my former players, two on loan and [Jon Flanagan],” Klopp said, according to Sky Sports. “[Gerrard] is doing well. I am not sure what the Rangers fans expect but the start was brilliant actually.

“Then you lose against Celtic. Wow, what a surprise! That is a top team in the league. Celtic were not 50 or 60 percent better like in the last few years so they are coming closer. That is the only way to get them one day.

“That is his job to do but, so far — more than good. It is good football. In Europe, it was brilliant. So they have a good team together. They have to improve — that is it.”

Klopp also praised the news that Andrew Robertson has been named the captain for Scotland, an honor that Klopp feels the 24-year old deserves.

“Andy is a fantastic fella. He is a very smart and nice person. He can be a leader in the future, 100 percent,” Klopp said of the honor bestowed on Robertson, according to LiverpoolFC.com. “He made big steps in the last one-and-a-half years since we worked together. That’s really cool.

“He has made big steps in the last four or five years since he started his career. So it’s a nice story.

“He is still young but he is a leader already and he will be even better in that in the future.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been linked with summer moves for Poland midfielder Piotr Zielinski, whose contract expires in Naples in 2021, and Klopp has been targeting him since he arrived in 2015.

But Klopp will be thwarted when Zielinski inks a new long-term deal that will set his exit clause at a mammoth €150million (£134m), according to Italian publication Il Mattino.

“Everyone said: ‘Great offer, Klopp wants you, it’s a fairytale in terms of finances’. All fine, but I wasn’t convinced.

“I was driving my car and I said to my girlfriend: ‘No, red light, I’m not leaving’. I felt great in Empoli, I didn’t want to leave the lads when we were battling for the European places” Zielinski said of Klopp’s prior interest, according to Przeglad Sportowy.

“My head was a mess. Liverpool finally got a plane and I met with Jürgen Klopp. He said he wanted me in his team. I saw a different world and after returning my head was even a bigger mess.”

It will be interesting to see how this season for Liverpool plays out, and there will be plenty of opportunities to get in the action as Premier League Betting Offers are currently available.

As betters make their wagers, clubs such as Liverpool remain one of the more popular bets to make, especially with their potential this season. Klopp’s confidence in his club is certainly influencing how betters feel when considering a play for Liverpool.

For Klopp, he continues his focus on leading Liverpool to the ultimate success this season in Premier League.
