Johnny Manziel Could Be Eligible For The XFL In 2020

The XFL could be the next destination for Johnny Manziel, who is now looking to go by only Johnny.

During an interview with the ‘PFT PM’ podcast this week, XFL commissioner Oliver Luck said that the XFL would be open to bringing in Manziel as long as coaches felt as though he was good enough to play in the league.

That sentiment is a sharp departure from what league creator Vince McMahon stated during his announcement of the reboot of the XFL, saying that he wouldn’t want anyone with a criminal record in the league who added “you want someone who does not have any criminality whatsoever associated with them.”

Manziel was indicted on misdemeanor assault back in 2016, so he seems to be automatically eliminated from consideration, based on McMahon’s comments.

However, Luck’s comments seem to open the door for a potential entry of Manziel, who is coming off a short stint in the AAF and a failed run in the CFL, which he is barred from signing from any team.

“If he is able to meet our standards and if our coaches think he’s one of the top quarterbacks out there that can help us,” Luck said. “Certainly we have no reason not to believe he couldn’t be in the mix. But, again it’s really up to our coaches in terms of the quarterbacks they wanna take a look at.”
