Phillies Chairman David Montgomery Dies at Age 72

The Philadelphia Phillies have officially announced the death of chairman David Montgomery on Wednesday morning. Montgomery,who was diagnosed with cancer in his jaw bone in 2014, passed away at the age of 72.

Montgomery, a native of Philadelphia, joined the Phillies staff back in 1971 and late became a minority owner in 1981.

Montgomery served as Phillies’ chairman since 2015 when he returned from a leave of absence to undergo cancer treatment.

Montgomery also served as team president, among many other roles, during his nearly five-decade tenure with the Phillies organization, leaving an iconic and memorable impression on the entire organization.

During that time, the Phillies won five National League pennants and two World Series titles, the most recent coming back in 2008.
