Former New York Giants offensive lineman Mitch Petrus has died of what is believed to be a heatstroke, according to the Associated Press.
Petrus, 32, was working outside at his family shop in Arkansas on Thursday, and died later that night at a North Little Rock hospital, per reports.
According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, there was a heat advisory throughout Arkansas on Thursday with a heat index that made it feel over 100 degrees.
Petrus was drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Giants and appeared in 17 games over his first two season.
Petrus was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI championship team that defeated the New England Patriots.
Following his release in 2012, Petrus spent time with the Patriots and also the Tennessee Titans, who released him in 2013 marking the end of his career.
