NBA Execs Believe Russell Westbrook to Heat as ‘Inevitability’

2 Min Read

When it comes to the future of Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Russell Westbrook a number of NBA executives believe that one destination is an ‘inevitability’.

According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, NBA execs believe that Westbrook will end up with the Miami Heat when it is all said and done.

“I think Miami is the only place that makes any sense. Not from a basketball standpoint — I don’t like the fit of Westbrook and Jimmy Butler together — but the Heat are one of the few teams willing to take on both Westbrook’s money and his personality. In fact, Miami could be the only one. It would make for a fascinating story on several levels. People around the league consider it an inevitability that he will wind up there at this point, too.”

Westbrook is reportedly interested in landing with the Heat, where he would form a tandem with Jimmy Butler, whom the Heat acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this offseason.

A trade won’t be easy, as Westbrook’s contract is quite hefty and will carry a high price tag as he enters his mid-30s.

With the Thunder motivated to make a deal, and Westbrook working with them to get a deal done, we could see a team be willing to take on the financial anchor that comes with Westbrook, in order to get one of the NBA’s elite players.
