ESPN has decided to delay their broadcast of their esports team tournament of the game Apex Legends, out of respect for the victims in the recent shootings in El Paso and Dayton.
ESPN decided to postpone airing the footage from the EXP Invitational at the X Games that was held back on August 2nd “out of respect for the victims and all those impacted in the immediate aftermath of the shootings.”
Apex Legends is a first-person, battle royale shooter game, and according to TMZ Sports, ESPN will eventually air the broadcast sometime in October.
President Donald Trump placed blame on video games, and the video game culture, for the recent mass shootings during a speech on Monday from the White House.
With the rise of esports, and more coverage being given to esports teams, the video game culture is rising to new heights, both financially and in global popularity.
