Amazon’s Twitch has added more sports content to their popular streaming platform as the National Women’s Hockey League has officially announced that they are heading to Twitch.
According to the recent announcement, the NWHL signed a 3-year contract with Twitch granting the platform rights to stream their games, starting this season, on their Twitch streamers.
The deal marks the first time that the NWHL will receive a broadcasting rights fee, and alll revenue will be shared with the players in the NWHL.
“The official announcement of our partnership with Twitch makes this a historic day for the NWHL, our players, fans and everyone who supports the advancement of women’s hockey,” commissioner Dani Rylan said in a press release.
“The live broadcasts of every single NWHL game on Twitch will allow us to both foster and grow our current community while introducing professional hockey to a new audience for the first time.”
In addition to game action, NWHL players, broadcasters, and others will participate in live chats and interact with fans on the streaming platform.
With the rise in popularity of female streamers, the NWHL will likely find a viable outlet to draw more eyes to their product. Women streamers have been garnering more and more attention, and it will likely drive up interest in a the NWHL product as they become more ingrained in the streaming platform.
The new season kicks off on October 5th.
