Oakland Raiders’ linebacker Vontaze Burfict is no stranger to dirty plays, and seems to revel in his role of being a dirty player, and he again showed his disregard for player safety on Sunday for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts’ tight end Jack Doyle.
Burfict was ejected for the hit, during the second quarter of the Raiders’ 31-24 victory over Indy, and smiled and blew kisses as he jogged off the field.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Burfict will be suspended as soon as Monday.
Burfict, 29, has received 13 suspensions and fines in seven seasons with his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals, with two of the suspensions for illegal hits, totaling six games.
Burfict, a team captain for the Raiders, is in his first season with the team.
“It’s a tough decision, it’s a tough call. I think it was a flag,” Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said. “It was very well-documented that the league was going to review those plays this year in New York City. So, that’s what happened and I’ll wait to hear what their reasoning was. But it was a penalty, he went in there with his head down, it was called and, unfortunately for us, it was an ejection.”
