Saints’ Drew Brees Undergoing Thumb Surgery

1 Min Read

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to miss up to six weeks after he undergoes thumb surgery as early as Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Brees was injured during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams when Rams’ defensive tackle Aaron Donald appeared to hit Brees’s hand as he attempted a pass during the first quarter.

Brees would remain on the sidelines for the rest of the game, and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater came on in relief.

Brees, 40, believed that he needed surgery for ligament damage, but was still deciding on what to do as of Sunday night.

“It’s very difficult not to be playing,” Brees said (h/t ESPN). “I’m not used to that. I don’t want to get used to that.”
