Steelers Acquire Minkah Fitzpatrick from Dolphins

2 Min Read

The Pittsburgh Steelers have acquired defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins in a package that includes a 2020 first round draft pick.

Per the deal, the Dolphins will get the Steelers 1st rounder in 2020, along with a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 sixth round pick.

Along with Fitzpatrick, the Steelers will also get the Dolphins’ 2020 fourth rounder and a seventh round pick in 2021.

“We are very excited to add Minkah to our defense,” Steelers general manager and vice president Kevin Colbert said in a statement (h/t ESPN). “We had him rated very high during the 2018 NFL draft process and we thought that he could be an impact player in this league.”

Fitzpatrick, 22, became disgruntled with his position in Miami, despite only being in the league for a year and being almost entirely potential. Fitzpatrick apparently “deserved better” despite his minimal tenure in the league.

Despite his skillset, Fitzpatrick’s entitled take took a lot of people off guard, and Miami was aggressive in dealing him as soon as he made his trade request public. What is surprising is that the Steelers were the team to give up a 1st rounder for him, as given the injury to Ben Roethlisberger, could be a Top 10 draft pick.

The trade gives Miami 3 first round picks in 2020.
