Angels Hire Joe Maddon

2 Min Read

The Los Angeles Angles have reached an agreement with Joe Maddon to become their next manager, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

Per the report, the two sides agreed on a three-year deal that is expected to be formally announced on Wednesday.

According to ESPN, Maddon is expected to receive a three-year contract in the $12 million to $15 million range.

Maddon, 65, spent 31 years with the Angels organization as both a player and a coach, starting his coaching career as a bench coach for Mike Sciocia.

Maddon departed in 2005 to become the manager of the Tampa Bay Rays, where he was at the helm for 9 years and led the team to their only World Series appearance.

Maddon opted out of his contract in 2014 and joined the Chicago Cubs, where he guided them to a World Series championship, their first since 1908, and becoming the most successful manager in franchise history.

Maddon was ousted at the end of the 2019 season following a brutal, late-season collapse, but now finds himself back with the organization he is most familiar with.
