Florida State Fires Willie Taggart

Florida State officially fired head coach Willie Taggart on Sunday, ending his tenure following only 21 games at the helm, according to ESPN’s Andrea Adelson.

Taggart’s short tenure has produced little to no results for the Seminoles, who lost 27-10 to rival Miami on Saturday, a game that seemed to be the final straw leading to the administration to decide to move on from Taggart.

“I think very highly of Coach Taggart and wish him well, but in the interest of the university we had no choice but to make a change,” Florida State University president John Thrasher said. “We will support our student-athletes in every way and do all we can to return to the winning tradition that is Seminole football.”

FSU reportedly raised about $20 million in private donations to buy out what was left of Taggart’s contract, according to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach. FSU has denied that the money was raised for a buyout.
