Texans’ DeAndre Hopkins Slams PI Officiating

3 Min Read

Houston Texans’ wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins isn’t took happy with how pass interference, or lack thereof, are being officiated and is calling for changes after a blatant non-call during Sunday’s game between the Texans and the Baltimore Ravens.

During the 1st quarter of Sunday’s game, Ravens’ cornerback Marlon Humphrey seemed to obviously commit pass interference when defending Hopkins on a play in the end zone.

Texans’ head coach Bill O’Brien challenged the play, but the no-call was upheld and the Texans turned the ball over on downs.

Hopkins was still upset with the way that went down when the 41-7 thrashing was over, and aired his frustrations during some tweets.

“Everyone saw it,” Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson said, according to ESPN’s Sarah Bishop. “The guy wrapped him around. But they didn’t make that call. You’ve got to live with it. You can’t really dwell on it. It definitely could have been a changing point of the game. A momentum switch. But it’s just one of those calls that, it didn’t go our way, and we’ve got to continue to push forward.”

While Watson said the play could have been a turning point in the game, it’s hard to argue it would have mattered that much as the Texans’ were thoroughly thumped by the Ravens, with the Texans’ defense looking terrible and their offensive line not playing very well, at all.

“I have no idea what pass interference is anymore” O’Brien added. “No idea.”

Despite the rule changes that the NFL made during the offseason to allow coaches to challenge pass interference penalties that were or were not called, the numbers show that it has not really moved the needle that much, and public reaction has overwhelmingly been negative.
