Danny Jacobs To Make 168 Pound Debut Vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. In Phoenix

3 Min Read

Danny ”The Miracle Man” Jacobs (35-3 29 KOs) is looking to get back in the big fight picture but will this time do so at 168 pounds against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (51-3-1 33 KOs).

Jacobs is on a mission to become a two-weight World champion and he will do so by taking his first steps towards that goal here in the valley of the sun.

As for Chavez Jr., he too is looking to get it on to get himself into the 168 pound weight class landscape. So a lot is riding on the line as both fighters seek to secure their legacy, and a win here will bring forth potential clashes against Callum Smith, Phoenix’s very own David Benavidez, Caleb Plant, or Billy Joe Saunders in 2020.

Also on the card will be ”Mighty” Maurice Hooker. Hooker, the former 140 pound titlist will face late replacement Uriel Perez in a 10-rounder.

The co-feature will have Julio Cesar Martinez vs. Cristofer Rosales in a fight scheduled for 12 rounds for the vacant WBC flyweight strap.

Other fighters on the card will be Gabe Rosado, Josh Kelly, Daniyar Yeleussinov, Liam Smith and many more. Smith is Callum Smiths older brother, so maybe Callum will be sitting ringside to get a close look at a future possible opponent for him in Danny Jacobs or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The legend himself, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is also expected to be sitting ringside to see his son battle Jacobs.

The fight card will be brought to you by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, speaking of Matchroom, they have just inked junior welterweight and top 10 pound for pound fighter, Mikey Garcia.

In a statement, Garcia stated the following: “I am happy to announce my return to the ring for February 29,”I am eager to make my return and grow my legacy. I look forward to working with Matchroom Boxing USA and DAZN and I want to thank all my fans for the continued support. Fight details will be announced soon, and I can’t wait to be back in the ring.”

Jesse Vargas will more than likely face Garcia on February 29, but I am already beating the drums to see Mikey Garcia lock horns against Josh Taylor.

The Daniel Jacobs and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Super-Middleweight clash takes place at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday December 20, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.
